Cultivation of saffron in 8 cities of Ardabil in Iran
The head of Ardabil Jihad-e-Agriculture Organization said: At present, 31 types of agricultural products are cultivated in Ardabil province.
Adeel Sarvi, head of the Ardabil Jihad-e-Agriculture Organization, added: Saffron has been added to their statistics as a valuable and stabilized crop.
He said: Saffron has unique characteristics that are the most economical product in the country in terms of employment and water resources management and economics, and in terms of agricultural employment is the most significant rank.
He added: with the follow-ups and with the help of national and provincial officials, for the first time with the cooperation of relevant experts in cultivation and processing of economic and valuable saffron crop in Ardabil province and this year was cultivated in eight cities.
He added: This year, about 72 tons of onions entered the province and were distributed among farmers, which has been cultivated in an area equivalent to 50 hectares.
Referring to the botanical characteristics of saffron, the survey noted: Saffron is the least expected crop in terms of water requirement, and due to the weather and climate that we are witnessing drought and water shortage crisis, this product can be produced in critical conditions.
He added: 1.5 kg of saffron chips is produced from each hectare, which according to the tests performed, the quality of saffron produced in Ardabil has the first and second ranks.
